For EU citizens, the tax laws for digital products changed since jan. 1st 2015, as you can read here.
What does this all mean for you?
It's actually pretty simple. If you are located in the EU, you have to pay VAT. Just like you need to pay those taxes in any other shop. However the thing that will change is this:
Before these new tax rules, the amount of tax charged by clipteez was the tax rate from the Netherlands, where ClipTeez is based.
As of January 2015, tax is no longer charged from the Netherlands, but from the country you are currently located in.
For example, if you're from Italy or Slovenia, your country's tax rate is 22%, so instead of paying 21% Dutch tax, you now pay 22%. (1% more)
The EU requires us to match your IP address with your Shipping address in order to prevent tax evasion. Therefore, when you pay, you automatically verify that you are in the country that we detected, because your shipping address needs to match with our IP check. If it does not detect the right country, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org, and be ready to provide some proof of residence.
Note that your country detection and shipping address will have to count for the country you are currently in at the time of payment. If you are on holiday or a business trip, we will detect that country and not your own country. And base taxes on the country you are in at that time. This ofcourse makes a lot more sense because when you're abroad you wouldn't pay the tax rate of your own country either.
Because of this, we can only show the NET. price, because we do not know up front which country you are from. Tax will be added once you agreed to your location.
And now for the good news: The most densely populated countries have a lower tax rate than the 21% we used to charge. So in most cases, the prices are lower t han before!
